Fairfield to tweak comprehensive plan

September 1, 2018 by

Fairfield plans to spend a year updating its comprehensive plan, and wants everyone in the community to be in on the process, including city officials, business owners, residents, and other stakeholders.

The city conducted a rigorous selection process earlier in the year to choose a consulting firm, and settled on Jacobs Engineering to work on the update process.

A comprehensive plan is a framework that can be used to guide redevelopment and development in a community. It considers such issues as housing, economic development, transportation, land use, and other concepts that impact the quality of life in a city. Fairfield’s current plan dates back almost 10 years, and is being updated to take current priorities and trends into account, as well as looking to the future. The plan has to take the aspirations, needs and values of the community into account.

The city would like everyone to have a say in Fairfield Forward. The city plans meetings, and has surveys available online, and encourages residents to speak up about the direction they want the city to go in future.

The first meeting open to the public about the plan is scheduled for Wednesday, September 5, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, at the Fairfield Lane Library on Corydale Drive.

Since a lot of information is discussed at meetings like this, officials might consider distributing business cards so residents can contact them for further information.
