Washington to host seafood celebration

Oysters have long been harvested in the North Atlantic, and a Washington celebration will showcase how each farm produces ones with a unique flavor.

Oyster Wars will offer chefs from across the Atlantic Seaboard with a chance to show off their culinary skills when it comes to this popular shellfish. Craft beer will also be served, and guests will be welcome to sample all that will be on offer.

At least nine chefs will be preparing oysters from nine farms, and beer from 11 craft breweries will be available for the guests to enjoy. Some of the offerings will be coming in from as far away as Texas, and while the attendees relax and soak up the atmosphere, a reggae band and DJ will keep everyone entertained.

While food and beer may be the big draws for the day, guests can feel good knowing that a portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Anacostia Riverkeeper and Oyster Recovery Partnership. T-shirts, tasting glasses, branded clothing and banners are just a few of the items that can be crafted for an event like this by local print shops.

This celebration of seafood and “suds” will be held on September 29th. It has been planned for The Salt Line, which can be found at 79 Potomac Avenue Southeast and all are welcome.
