Amazon plans new distribution center for Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge will soon be home to the first distribution center for Amazon in Louisiana.

The facility will be just over 21,000 square feet in size and will help to speed deliveries for customers by collecting packages from other centers to deliver in the local area. It will be built by Clearspan Fabric Structures, located in South Windsor, Connecticut, and will be near Costco on Professional Boulevard.

Clearspan is known for its tent-like structures. The company is the contractor for a proposed warehouse for Amazon to be built in Memphis. The building would have trusses with taut fabric pulled over them and then held in place with cables. This type of structure is cost-effective for commercial distribution, has enough clearance and height for forklifts, and is an unusual design.

Hundreds of full-time jobs will be created as a result of the distribution center with salaries as high as $25 an hour. Business card printing may be used for opportunities such as this one for the employees who will need business cards.

Amazon has been constructing many such distribution centers across the country as these centers help to meet the increasing demand from customers. Other centers that are either announced or under construction are in such cities as Schodack, New York; Bessemer, Alabama; Burlington, New Jersey; and Charlotte, North Carolina.
