As far as American tech hubs are concerned Silicon Valley, Austin and San Francisco may get all the press, but when it comes to the new assessment of the best cities for tech workers in the U.S., Dallas beats them.

SmartAsset, a personal finance website, sifted through five different sets of data for 201 U.S. municipalities to create its 2018 ranking of the country’s top cities for tech workers. Among the data used was average cost of living, average salary, jobless rate, tech employment concentration and average pay compared to average tech pay.

Last year Dallas was in the No. 5 position; this year it climbed to the rank of No. 3. The city would have ranked higher but for its relatively high unemployment among college graduates, which printing services could be asked to include in information pacts sent to tech businesses that Dallas is trying to woe.

Here is how other Texas cities fared in SmartAssets: San Antonio came in at No. 8. Next in line was Houston which jumped to No. 10 from its 2017 spot of No. 15 and also in the top 25 was Austin at No. 19.

No. 1 in the country was Columbus, Ohio and Des Moines, Iowa came in second just ahead of Dallas. As for San Francisco and Silicon Valley, they didn’t make it into the top 25 due to their extremely high cost of living.
