Ocoee area events focus on firefighters

The Apopka Fire Department has chosen to celebrate the life of one of its former members by hosting a golf fundraiser and first responder skill building commerce near Ocoee.

This will be the fourth year for the event, and it will honor Armando Borjas Jr. Borjas served with the fire department for 14 years but was diagnosed with stage IV esophageal cancer. While he may have lost his battle, his memory lives on and is the inspiration for the Surviving the Fire Ground and Beyond golf tournament and conference.

The conference, which will include presentations from seasoned fire service instructors, will also include hands-on learning. The major focus of the occasion will be the health and safety of firefighters along with that of their families. A dinner has also been included in the agenda for the symposium, and the keynote speaker fort his will be Chief Bobby Halton.

The golf tournament is open to all, and the monies raised will be used to fund scholarships for youth who are planning a career as a first responder. Logo design and other print services for this sort of occasion can be supplied by a print shop in the local area.

The conference has been set to run from October 8th to October 10th, while the golf tournament will be taking place on October 13th. The locations will be released upon registration.
