Scottsdale views butterflies

Nature lovers and amateur photographers will be heading for one or more of Butterfly Wonderland’s three events scheduled for late August and early September.

One event will be a one-hour quiet photography opportunity. This will be a chance for photographers 18 years and older to capture awaking butterflies and reptiles. The sanctuary has some new species that should be quite interesting. Many attendees will be taking their good shots to local print shops for some poster printing and to stationery printers for colorful personal stationery. All proceeds will go to the Butterfly Wonderland Foundation.

Later in August, Senior Day will be a day set aside for our older Scottsdale residents to enjoy the gardens. Curators will be giving special talks and there will be entertainment.

Butterfly enthusiasts will be taking a trip to Southern Arizona to learn how and to aid in the tagging of Monarchs. Butterfly Wonderland’s Director of Education, Adriane Grimaldi, aided by volunteer Tommy Tucker will meet them and discuss the procedure. This will be an opportunity to observe the travelling Monarchs as they continue on into Mexico.

The photography session will be August 25th from 8:30 to 9:30 am.

Senior Day is slated for Monday, August 27th, 9am to 6 pm, and the Monarch Tagging event will be Sunday, September 9th from 9 am until 1 pm. Those interested in tagging need to call the office to register and get directions.

Butterfly Wonderland is located at 9500 E. Via de Ventura.
