The Northwest Quilting Expo is taking place next month in Portland for three days.

The Expo will feature several quilting classes that will begin a couple of days before the event and will continue until the end. Classes range in price from $20 up to $95 and will include such topics as learning the wedge quilt, the magic triangle, English paper piecing and making an improve flower. The instructors are all quilt professionals.

The show is a juried one and quilters will be competing for several awards that have cash prices from $150 up to $2,000. These awards are Best in Show, two Judge’s Choice awards and Viewer’s Choice. There will also be first, second and third prizes given for the winners in each category. Categories include appliqué, modern, traditional and pictorial among others; the quilt can also either be freehand sewn or computerized.

A popular part of the show is sure to be the Vendor Mall where guests can purchase a wide variety of quilting related supplies, accessories and quilts.

Portland flyer printing firms are often asked to provide marketing materials for such events.

The Northwest Quilting Expo will be held at the Portland Expo Center from September 27 to 29. Tickets are $10 per day or $27 for all three. For more information about the event or about classes, call 503-624-7440.
