Arlington goes around the world at cultural festival

Over 40 countries will be showcasing their cultures with an ethnic cuisine, entertainment, arts, and crafts festival.

Participating countries at this year’s event will include Argentina, China, El Salvador, Guam, India, Jamaica, Peru, Turkey, Vietnam, Nigeria, Greece, Brazil, and Colombia.

Along with the food and merchandise vendors, there will be a cultural fashion show and food demonstrations.

For the first time, the event has invited artisans and crafters to display and sell their creations. There will be representatives from South African Bazaar, Lady V Boutique, Evelyn Brooks, and Usborne Books.

Performers will range from instrumental music, dance and vocals to pantomime, theatre and sung verse. Egypt will be represented by the Seven Egyptian Dance Troupe and the Raqs El-Hobs, Carolina Hernandez will represent Spain, and Peru will be represented by musical groups Grupo Etnia and Misky Tusui. Chino Daiko will be from Japan, Tinkus San Simon Virginia from Bolivia, and the Spotlight Studio will showcase dances from Indonesia.

Small businesses will also be onsite. They will be passing out promotional products, samples, and informational business cards. Nonprofit organizations will be explaining their programs and services.

Around the World Cultural Food Festival will take place between 13th and 14th Avenues in Washington D.C. at Freedom Plaza and Pennsylvania Avenue next Saturday, August 18, from 11:00 am until 7:00 pm. Entertainment will start at 11:30 am.
