Trio of plays on offer this weekend

Residents of Ashland have a chance to enjoy a day of theater.

For the second year in a row, the Whistle Stop Theatre Company will put on the Ashland Summer Theatre Festival. There will be three plays put: Thumbelina, Cattywampused, and Rumpelstiltskin.

The festival will be held at the Hanover Arts and Activities Center. Thumbelina is scheduled to be performed at noon, followed by Cattywampused at 2:00 pm, and then Rumpelstiltskin at 4:00 pm.

The Whistle Stop Theatre Company is based in Ashland, and is a nonprofit, volunteer-based theater group. The festival will showcase the three plays, but will also have activities in between shows, including crafts, games, and deals from other local Main Street vendors.

The plots of Thumbelina and Rumpelstiltskin are fairly well-known. The story of the Cattywampused is less known, but the legend is about a woman who desired more in life and was magically transformed into a fearsome cat-like creature.

Theater events like this one often have information on the plays available, as well as the cast, and this information often makes its way to poster and flyer printing companies. The festival is scheduled for tomorrow, August 11. It starts at noon and goes until the last play is done. Tickets are $10 and are good for all three plays, allowing in and out admission all day.
