Tall ships to make September appearance

August 10, 2018 by

The Tall Ship Festival is scheduled to take place in early September. The festival has tall ship tours, entertainment, food, cannon battles, art and crafts, pirate performances, and more.

Tours of all participating ships – the Brig Pilgrim, The Spirit of Dana Point, America, Californian, and Curlew – will take place during the Saturday and Sunday. As part of the tours, visitors will meet the sailors, turn the helm, and watch interactive demonstrations.

Demonstrations and activities will be held in the Maritime Barn and inside the Ocean Institute. Guests can learn about the anatomy of the squid and the history of the whaling industry. An interactive story about How Mermaids Talk will be presented, and attendees can learn to raise a sail and move cargo on the wharf at the Sailor Life Tour. Other activities at the festival are gold panning, knotting, candle-making, and a visit to a pirate’s camp.

Peddlers Village will have food and beverages, and local craftsmen displaying their handmade crafts. The Sierra Nevada Beer Garden for adults serves beer all day and musical entertainment is provided by the Los Rios Rock School.

There will be parking and a shuttle running from the Stand Vista Park and Dana Point High School.

Dana Point has print shops that can help museums, restaurants, craftsmen, artists, retail stores, businesses, and clubs with the design of posters and poster printing.

It all takes place September 7 to 9 at the Ocean Institute located at 24200 Dana Point Harbor Dr. in Dana Point. The hours are Friday 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and Saturday and Sunday 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.
