Bend workshop to discuss the process of constructing an Accessory Dwelling Unit

August 2, 2018 by

An add-on to an existing home can be a great way for a homeowner to increase their living space and functionality of their property, and a Bend workshop will explore the ins and outs of building an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU).

The class will review the process of constructing an ADU right from the planning stages. The organizer noted that the goal of the seminar is to give the public the tools and knowledge they can use to keep their construction costs down while using building techniques that are both energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

The participants in the event will walk away with a knowledge of how to design and receive permission to build their ADU, and there will also be a review of various possible funding options they can choose from. Green building certification and building methods will be included in the discussion, as will a list of resources in the community that can help.

Along with the presentation, the attendees will have time to ask the facilitator questions, and they can also network with one another. Print shops will be able to supply branded promotional pens, notebooks, and other materials for an event like this.

This opportunity to learn more about constructing an environmentally friendly ADU will be offered on October 20 at The Environmental Center in Bend. More information is available on its online listing.
