Football scrimmage coming to Northvale area

Football fans in Northvale and the surrounding area have a treat in store, when the Golden Knights, the Northern Valley High School football team, hosts a preseason scrimmage.

The game will be a contest between The College of New Jersey Lions and the Seahawks of Salve Regina. A number of Seahawks players grew up in the Northvale area, and are looking forward to a homecoming.

Tom Kaechele, AD for the Golden Knights, has invited many local schools to come to the game, saying it is good for players to see what it is like to play Division III football. He added that most young people are probably at Division III level, and have a way to go to make it to Division I.

Kaechele said he was amazed when he spoke to kids he was trying to recruit, saying they had no understanding what it is like to play in Division III, let alone Division I, at schools like Penn State or Rutgers University. He believes that watching the scrimmage between Salve Regina and TCNJ, literally being on the sidelines a few feet from the action, and seeing how big and fast the players are, and how hard the hits are, will finally give high schoolers some indication of what the sport holds for them at the college level.

The game is set for August 24, starting at noon, at NV/Old Tappan. Organizers of events like this can work with banner printing companies to decorate the venue.
