Surfing event coming to Huntington Beach

July 24, 2018 by

Surfers from around the world will be converging on Huntington Beach (‘Surf City’) soon for the Vans US Open of Surfing.

There will be a number of events taking place during the open, including the World Surf League (WSL) Men’s Qualifying Series (QS); WSL Pro Junior events for both men and women; an all-women longboard competition—the first ever; and the Stoke-O-Rama, an annual event for all ages. Huntington Beach is Stop Number 7 on the Championship Tour (CT) of the WSL.

Huntington Beach is also the seventh out of 10 stops on the Women’s Championship Tour, and the world’s best 17 women surfers will be there. Among the competitors in this category are Stephanie Gilmore, who has been WSL champion six times; Carissa Moore, who has won the WSL championship three times; and Caroline Marks, a rookie who is only 16 years of age. Marks is currently number 7 in the world on the Jeep Leaderboard, and hopes to make her appearance at Huntington Beach another success.

Marks said the US Open is different because so many competitive surfing contests take place over the space of a few days. She is also excited because her family will be at Surf City to see her compete. The event begins July 28, and runs through August 5.
