New mixed-development project comes to Newport

Construction has begun in Newport for Academy on 4th, an apartment building with 202 units at market rate and commercial space on the first floor. Those who work in nearby St. Ann might consider this new development as their future residence.

The project is expected to cost $37m and is located on a site that was once the home to educational facilities. The developer is CRG Residential of Carmel, Indiana. David George of CRG Residential said the site’s use for education for the past 200 years led to the name ‘Academy on 4th’, which embraces the spirit of the community.

The Newport Academy opened on the site in 1799 and operated until 1850. A new public school was built and then Fourth Street Elementary was built during the 1930s. CRG kept parts of the school’s historic stone wall and donated many of the materials inside the school to local charities before demolition.

Jerry Peluso, Mayor of Newport, commented that this project will encourage people to live downtown as part of the city’s vision to bring more people into the downtown area. Newport City Manager Tom Fromme added that the project will help to transform the area into one of the best places to live.

Brochure printing can be used to create brochures with more information about such apartments and the potential retailers in the commercial space.
