Santa Ana to host butchering workshop

July 17, 2018 by

Home cooks in the Santa Ana area will have an opportunity this month to participate in a special type of cooking class.

The class is offered by Electric City Butcher, which is located in Santa Ana, on East 4th Street. As the name implies, the class is about butchering, in this case looking in particular at pork. The class is called ‘Pork 101 Workshop’, and is suitable for beginners. It is also one of the most popular classes offered by ECB.

The class will teach students how to butcher a whole pig, how to identify different cuts of meat, and how to break everything down into those smaller cuts. The class provides the meat as well as the tools. Knife skills will be reviewed in the class, which is a must, as well as safety protocols.

At the end of the class, students will get to take home any meat they cut – approximately four pounds – as well as the ‘ECB Tool Bag’, which includes a boning knife, butchers’ twine, handouts, and a coupon for next time. After the class is finished, drinks, and snacks will be served.

Electric City Butcher will take advantage of printing services for this class. They have handouts for all the students, as well as the printed coupons. The event is scheduled to take place this Thursday, July 19, starting at 7:00 pm and ending at approximately 9:00 pm.
