San Rafael prepares for long-running event

The 20th annual San Rafael Sunset Criterium will be taking place this month.

This event has been going for 20 years, and so is now well-known in the area. The event has been described as being like a nightclub outdoors, and conveying a party-like atmosphere. The event includes a small expo of sports, with vendors placed along the side of the track. There will also be a beer garden open to the public serving State Room Brewery, a local to downtown San Rafael.

Criterium racing is different to most types of bike racing. It takes place on a closed circuit track, usually a mile or less, and consists of multiple laps. As this is a type of lap racing, spectators get to see much more of the race. An announcer also keeps track of the action, letting the spectators know what is going on, who is in the lead, and other pertinent details. Competitors jockey for position in the front of the pack of riders, or “sprint” towards the end. Competitors will not only be professionals, but also amateurs who have current USA Cycling licenses.

The event will likely promote itself by taking advantage of banner printing services. The track will be in the town and taking over some of the streets, so banners are a natural way to advertise for this event. The event will take place on Saturday, July 28, from approximately 1:30 pm to 9:00 pm.
