Madison heads for the fair

It is almost time to head to the Dane County Fair.

The four-day event will have classic features such as the youth exhibits and animal judging and some new features. Some of these include daily themed-related activities such as Thursday’s Hometown Hero Day.

Nightly entertainment will feature Madison Music Foundry Band on Thursday, Madison County on Friday, Ryan Stevenson on Saturday, and the La Movida Family Fiesta on Sunday. The fiesta will include taco and jalapeño eating contests and an El Grito (shout of joy) contest. Fans of the bands will be on the lookout for promotional products such as T-shirts sporting the band’s logo design.

Friday will be Kids’ Day and activities in Exhibition Hall A will include kite-making, camp songs, crown-making, butter-making, bean seed necklaces. Agri-Veristy will have chocolate milk sampling, beeswax candle making, a milk trivia wheel, and maple syrup making. Kids will also be exploring a compost bin and making a bicycle blender garden snack. The ESPN staff will be on hand at the patio to oversee sports games such as corn hole, basketball, and wiffle ball.

On Sunday, daily entertainment will be provided by the Kiddie Farm, Moto Maniacs, and K9s in Flight, while Hall C will be the location of the Teacher’s Pet Training Academy dog demos.

Dane County Fair will take place from July 19 through 22 at the Alliant Energy Center, 1919 Alliant Center Way. Gates open at 9:00 am and close at 11:00 pm.
