Chagrin Falls to get into the habit

July 7, 2018 by

Chagrin Falls audiences will have fun when ‘Sister Act’ comes to the Main Stage of the Chagrin Valley Little Theatre soon.

The show is based on the 1992 movie of the same name, which starred Whoopi Goldberg, and has a book by Cherie and Bill Steinkellner, with music by Alan Menken and lyrics written by Glenn Slater.

The plot centers on the plight of a lounge singer who saw her boyfriend, a mob boss, execute his chauffeur. She is put into the witness protection program, and ends up in a convent in San Francisco, where the Mother Superior assigns ‘Sister Doloris’ to the choir, which is mediocre at best and where the bogus sister will cause the fewest problems.

The choir is so bad, though, that Sister Doloris cannot stand it, and works to make them over. The result is a choir that thrills the neighborhood, brings people to church, raises funds, and finally gets a standing ovation from an audience. Many of the songs in the show are pop hits such as ‘Rescue Me’.”

Sister Act opens July 20 and runs through August 11 on weekends only. The show goes up at 8:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, with 2:00 pm matinees on Sundays. Tickets are $20, although students, young people, and seniors receive a $4 discount.

Fun events be enhanced if management works with a poster printing company on placards to advertise them.
