Pizza production expanding at Schwan’s Florence plant

One of the United States premier food manufacturers, the Schwan’s Company, announced it has spent $34m to boost production at its pizza making facility in Florence.

A Schwan’s subsidiary, SFC Global Supply Chain, Inc., owns the 380,000 square-foot facility where Red Baron, Freschetta and Schwan’s brand pizzas, along with pizzas for school lunches, are produced.

According to the company, hiring is underway for around 50 positions that include first- and second-shift machine operators and line attendants to handle the demand for Freschetta and Red Baron products.

Often, a company making a significant increase to its workforce will take the opportunity to review its employee handbook, make any necessary changes and have a local print shop supply copies of the updated version.

Commenting on the increase in the workforce, the Senior Director of Manufacturing for the Schwan’s facility said:

“We’re extremely excited to be in a position to grow our team in Florence and meet the increasing demand for our foods. We look forward to meeting people who are interested in joining our team.”

It was last year that the company made public its decision to invest $34m in the Empire Drive facility in Florence.

A primary part of the project involved the plant’s pizza crust bakery. The bakery was updated and measures taken to cut waste while increasing production. Additionally, the facility’s crust-making proficiency was ramped up.
