Arlington runners beat the heat

July 5, 2018 by

The upcoming Twilighter 5K will be a midsummer night’s race that bypasses the heat of the day. Thousands of runners will be racing the streets.

Arlington teams will participate in the Parade of Nations as they walk to the starting line. Each team will submit a tune and DJ Edward Daniels will play it to summon that team.

This year all teams will be competing as Run Club Throw Down teams. Teams will consist of at least five members, and since all Twilighter teams are considered mixed-coed, there will be a minimum of two female and two male runners per team.

Teams will be divided into three divisions. The Racing Clubs plus Teams will be the fastest divisions. These clubs will include DC Road Runners Club, Montgomery County Road Runners Club, Capital Area Runners and Georgetown Running Club. The Community Run Clubs division will include teams such as The District Running Collective, The Flock, and the November Project. The final category will be the Pacers Neighborhood Fun Runs. These teams will be from Fairfax, Pacers Clarendon, 14th Street, Pentagon Row, and the Navy Yard.

All divisions will be scored in Biggest, Strongest, Fastest, and Smartest performances. Overall champions will receive a personalized plaque. Winning teams will want to get their pictures taken for future poster printing.

The event will be July 21, starting at 8:30 pm in Crystal City on Crystal Drive between 20th and 23rd Streets.
