Sacramento hosts California State Fair

It is about time for the California State Fair. The 16-day event will have music and performance concerts, horseracing, exhibits, sports, animals, special events and lots of rides.

Over 20 competitions are scheduled. They range from Plein Air, fine arts, and photography, to crafts, commercial cheese, canning, and baking. Animal contests include junior livestock, fur and feathers and County Fair Best of Show horses. There will be pie-eating and corn dog-eating contests, and the California State Fair Cornhole Championships, too.

Students in grades K-6 can experience the fair’s Farm Tours where they can visit interactive learning stations and the one-hour California Forest Center Tour.

Golden 1 Stage will feature free concerts every night. Some performances will be by WAR, Trace Adkins, Kool and the Gang, Easton Corbin, Sugar Ray, the Spinners, and Los Lonely Boys. Fans will be wearing and displaying their favorite band’s promotional products such as T-shirts, visors and water bottles.

Kids Park will be a mini park area with rides designed especially for the younger set. The carnival will offer games, rides and concessions for the older crowd. This will include the Giant Ferris Wheel, the Zipper, and the Ex Scream Machine Coaster.

An indoor bazaar will feature product sales and demos along with arts and crafts. The outdoor global market will have vendors selling unique items from around the world.

The California State Fair will run from July 13 through 29 at Cal Expo, 1600 Exposition Blvd.
