Redding celebrates the Fourth with fireworks and festival

June 26, 2018 by

Redding will once again be celebrating Independence Day with traditional fireworks and fun at the annual Freedom Festival.

Everyone is invited to the free event, encouraged to come later in the day or early evening to avoid the traditional Redding heat, and reminded to bring blankets and lawn chairs.

The event will open with a welcome and announcements. Following that the Shasta Symphony Orchestra featuring Chris McCandless will present a musical feast of patriotic songs.

Local nonprofit organizations will be selling summer treats to help fund their causes. Wings of Angels will have BBQ and grill items. Softball teams will be hawking pizza and kettle corn while the Foothill High School Cheerleading Team will sell desserts and root beer floats. The Enterprise Jr. High Hornets will vend beef jerky, cotton candy, and snow cones.

Everyone can also purchase glowsticks and get their faces painted.

Of course, the finale of the evening will be the fireworks display. This is considered Northern California’s largest fireworks show.

Simulcasting of the firework soundtrack will be on KFPR (88.9) and Q97 (97.3). Fans of these stations will no doubt be buying their promotional products as a thank you for their efforts.

Redding’s Freedom Festival will be Tuesday, July 4. Vendor booths will open at 5:00 pm. The Freedom Music presentation will begin at 7:00 pm, and the fireworks show starts at 10:00 pm.
