Outdoor performances on schedule in Edison

This summer, residents of Edison and surrounding communities can enjoy theater under the stars, as Middlesex County presents Plays-in-the-Park at Edison’s Stephen J. Capestro Theater, an open-air venue.

Three musicals are presented each summer, each with a run of 10 performances. This season, the theater is presenting ‘Fiddler on the Roof’, ‘Mamma Mia!’, and ‘You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown’.

‘Fiddler’ is running now. The popular musical first premiered in 1964, and went on to win nine Tony Awards. The story is set in the small Russian village of Anatevka, where Tevye, the milkman, is trying to find husbands for his five daughters. Songs include ‘If I Were a Rich Man’ and ‘Sunrise, Sunset’.

Next up is Mamma Mia!, a show developed around, and showcasing, the music of the Swedish pop group ABBA, one of the best-selling groups of all time. The show features such well-known tunes as ‘Dancing Queen’, ‘Fernando’, and of course the one that lends the show its name.

The final show of the season is ‘You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown’, based on the hugely popular comic strip. It brings to life beloved characters like Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus, and the rest of the gang from Peanuts.

Fiddler on the Roof runs through June 30, Mamma Mia! runs July 11 through July 21, and ‘Charlie Brown’ is coming up August 1 to 11.

Organizers of this type of event might work with a poster printing company to create colorful posters for each production.
