Ocoee gardeners invited to veggie growing workshop

June 21, 2018 by

The growing conditions found in Florida may be very different to what those new to the state may be used to, and an Ocoee area workshop will help them grow their own fresh veggies and get the most from their property’s garden.

The session which is being offered through the support of the UF/IFAS Extension Orange County, will provide details about a variety of topics related to successful vegetable production in a home garden. The participants will also be able to ask any questions they might have and share tips with the other students.

The facilitator of the workshop will review the basics of soil preparation, how to determine the pH of their soil and amend it, how to irrigate the plants in a way that conserves water, and also what diseases and pests they may come across. This learning opportunity is being offered for free, and it will run for approximately one and a half hours.

Anyone who would like to take advantage of this chance to increase their horticultural knowledge has been asked to preregister well ahead of time. Simple garden manuals and other informational materials for this type of function can be sourced form a local printing services provider.

All local green thumbs are invited to reserve their seat in this Florida veggie gardening class, which will be held on July 12. It will be taking pace in Wintergarden’s Jessie Brock Community Center.
