Annual 5K just days away

This year’s 38th Massapequa Firecracker 5K includes the main race and a ¼mile fun run for kids.

The annual race has a list of gifts for all participants as well as prizes for the top runners. Locals can prepare some banner printing for their favorite runner or join the race for themselves. All pre-registered entrants receive a free race t-shirt, race video, and finish line photo, and can join in on the festivities in Brady Park at the end of the race. A cold hand towel will be waiting for each runner at the park.

Event emcee Terry Bisogno will keep the crowds informed of the actions while everyone can enjoy the food, drink, and entertainment at the post-race festival. The USATF certified course is a 3.1-mile run that begins at the corner of Park and Clark, follows through the scenic bike path of Walker Street Preserve and ends at Brady Park.

All fun run participants receive a medal. Prizes for the 5k include an award for the fastest overall, fastest Massapequa Park resident, and the top runners in each age groups. The top female and male runners in every category receive a prize. The top three wheelchair finishers also win awards and anyone that beats the current course records wins a $100 bonus.

The race begins at 3:00 pm this Sunday, June 24 at Brady Park in Massapequa Park. All runners must check in at the Runner’s Edge in Farmingdale on June 23 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The cost of entry is $25 per person for the 5k and $5 pre-registration for the fun run or $7 on the day of the race.
