Several notable companies visit Massachusetts school

Whitcomb Middle School in Marlborough, Massachusetts recently received a visit from several major company representatives in an effort to promote STEM-based career choices late last month.

Some of the companies that were invited to attend by the school district included Patriot Ambulance, Boston Scientific, GE Healthcare, and the UMASS Marlborough Hospital. The focus of this event was careers in the health service industry and each of the companies gave hands-on presentations that showed students what kind of work they performed. For example, Patriot Ambulance brought along one of their ambulances to demonstrate how their equipment works and how they go about saving people while GE Healthcare introduced students to the career of a radiologist and showed them some of the equipment that a radiologist will have to use throughout their career.

One of the individuals who worked with the school to coordinate the event, Laura Purutyan, said:

“We are grateful to our STEM-based partners for running hands-on experiential workshops for the sixth-grade students at Whitcomb. Our goal was to help the students rotate through different stations and ignite a passion for the healthcare sector. This was a great first-time event for everybody involved.”
