City manager unveils new budget for Concord

The City Council and mayor of Concord, William Dusch, were recently presented the budget recommendations for the fiscal year 2018-2019 by City Manager Lloyd Payne.

Major sources of revenue for the general fund will be from sales tax and property receipts and total about $88m. Totals for all funds, including special revenue and utilities, will be about $250.89m, showing a 1.8% increase over the budget from the previous fiscal year.

The recommendation was to keep the current property tax rate of 48 cents per $100 of valuation. This is among the lowest third of municipalities in the state that have populations over 40,000 and provide full services to its residents.

Recommendations for the fiscal year 2019 budget include expansions in infrastructure and services as needed to meet the growth in the city, along with investments in coworker benefits and compensation so that the best talent can be recruited and maintained in the community.

At its working session on Tuesday, June 12, the City Council will discuss the budget. This will be followed by a public hearing two days later at the regular meeting of the City Council.

Print shops can be hired by the city to print out the recommendations of such budget proposals and expenditures so that interested individuals can read more in depth about such recommendations.
