Marathon helps to ensure everyone can keep smiling

The 8th annual Miles for Smiles 5K is taking place next month in Plymouth. It is a fundraising event for Lakes Region Community Services (LRCS).

The event is open to people of all ages and takes place on a flat course. Several elementary school running groups will be participating as part of their ‘Kids Run the Nation’ program.

Fees are $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the race; t-shirts will be available for purchase during registration. Prizes will be awarded to both the male and female top finishers, first to third place awards will be given in both children’s categories (which are ages 7-10 and 11-14) and first place awards will be handed out to the first place finisher in each of the four older age categories. All children aged six and younger will receive finisher awards. In addition, all runners can compete in the Best Smile Costume contest.

The T-shirts that marathon participants receive are often provided by Plymouth print shops and usually have the name of the event and a list of sponsors printed on them.

The LRCS provides dental care for adults with disabilities, and also helps with employment and residential care.

The Miles for Smiles 5K will start and finish at Smith Bridge on June 3, beginning at 9:00 AM. Contact Phoebe VanScoy-Giessler to find out more.
