Conroe chows down on BBQ for good cause

The 2nd Annual Southern Star BBQ Cook-off will take place toward the end of April. This family-friendly occasion will be preceded by a free Pre-Cook-off tailgate party geared more to adults.

The night before the Cook-off will be the tailgate party, which will feature a “traditional, progressive folk, and bluegrass” outfit in the Captain Legendary Band, and a blues rock band from Houston called TreynWrek. Fans will surely be clamoring for these bands’ promotional products.

The day of the cook-off, Texas bands will be performing on the venue’s stage. These will include Black Dog Friday, Josh Field & Brother Nothing, and the Brandon McDermott Band. Market vendors will be selling their wares and food trucks will be on site for those who are looking for a few more food options. There will be silent auctions and raffles. Pets can be adopted right on site.

Cook-off categories will include pulled pork, chicken, ribs, brisket and best pit. Cash prizes amounting to $3,600, two-liter growlers, rustic wood coolers, and trophies will be awarded to winners of the people’s choice awards.

Proceeds from this event will go to Operation Pets Alive, an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization with a mission to have our county become a no-kill community.

The 2nd Annual Southern Star BBQ Cook-off will be April 28th, noon until 10:00 pm, at the Southern Star Brewing Company, 3525 N. Frazier St. The tailgate party will be from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm on April 27.
