Bellingham celebrates Dirty Dan

April 11, 2018 by

The Annual Dirty Dan Harris Festival will be coming in a few weeks. It will commemorate the founding of Fairhaven by Dirty Dan Harris.

Ryan Sandholm will be providing music and street vendors will be selling food. There will be a Bellingham Steampunk Society information booth and many local nonprofits will be handing out information about their missions and services.

People’s Bank will have a fish toss and local artists will be offering free face painting. Rocket Donuts will be hosting its annual donut eating competition and everyone is invited to enter the 1800s dresses and Dirty Dan lookalike contests.

Everyone is encouraged to come dressed in period costumes whether or not they opt to participate in the contests. Dogs will also be welcome to participate in the costume wearing.

Area restaurants will be competing in The Chuckanut Chili Cook-off. Each bowl of chili will be accompanied by a piece of Great Harvest bread, and eaters will vote for their favorite chili.

Nearby Boulevard Park will hold the Dan Harris Challenge Rowing Race inspired by Dan’s rum-rowing escapades. The Uphill Piano Race will once again have teams from local businesses vying for piano pushing honors. The winning team will have pictures taken that may be used in future poster printing.

The festival will be April 22 from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm on the Fairhaven Village Green.
