Danbury supports the arts with a madrigal and a run

April 1, 2018 by

In mid-April, Danbury Music Centre patrons will have the opportunity to hear an evening of Madrigal music and then get up bright and early the next day to run the Nutcracker 5K.

The Madrigal Singers will be presenting An Evening of Choral Favorites. The two-hour song fest will be featuring favorite songs from nine well-known composers – Thompson, Meader, Clausen, Hayes, Boublil, Schonberg, Whelan, Agular, and Hobbs – with 18 voices under the baton of Joyce Flanagan. The event will be free and donations can be made at the door. A reception will follow the performance.

Supporters for the arts, local runners, and walkers will be up early the next morning for the Nutcracker 5K. This race will be a fundraiser for the Danbury Music Center programs. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes and tutus, and winners will get prizes and bragging rights. Individual entry fees will be $25. Runners will run on an easy flat course within the park that will loop around the pond three times.

Spectators are sure to be taking pictures and getting some poster printing done to verify that their friends and neighbors really donned these outfits.

The Madrigal evening will be Saturday, April 14 from 7:30 pm until 9:30 pm at the Danbury Music Centre, 256 Main Street in the Marian Anderson Recital Hall. The Nutcracker 5K will be Sunday, April 15 from 8:00 am until 11:00 am at Tarrywile Park, 70 Southern Boulevard.
