Boardman Safety Services Memorial fundraiser officially underway

March 13, 2018 by

Last Wednesday, March 7, several organizations came together to launch a fundraising effort for a Safety Services Memorial to be placed in front of the new Boardman Township fire station.

The construction plans for the memorial have been drawn up and include two pillars, one of which will feature a firefighter and the other a police officer. Each figure will hold a flag made of steel with a laser-cut out from which a light will shine. A red light will stand for the firefighters, while a blue light will symbolize police officers.

Located at the corner of Stadium Drive and Market Street, the memorial will also include a reflecting pool at the base of the pillars, a place where visitors can contemplate the sacrifice safety personnel have made on their behalf. A wall etched with the names of those safety personnel who have fallen in the line duty will also be a part of the memorial.

While some money is already on tap for the memorial, more money will have to be raised, hence the recent fundraising kickoff. Those wishing to make donations can do so at

Organizations supporting projects like this may use flyer or poster printing to promote their fundraising efforts. Supporting groups in this instance include Boardman Firefighters Local 1176, the Boardman Lions Club, and the Boardman Police FOP Lodge 43.
