Madison turns Irish

March 7, 2018 by

Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day and Madison will be no exception. Events are being planned around Capitol Square to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

Shamrock Shuffle 2018 will get everyone up and at ‘em with a 5k Run/Walk and a 10 k Run. Both runs will begin and end on State Street. Proceeds from the shuffle will go to benefit the Dyslexia Center of Madison and Dane County’s Boys and Girls Club.

At noon the Shamrock Club of Dane County will hoist the Irish flag in the Capitol Rotunda. The winners of the raffle will be chosen at 1:20 pm and announced on the corner of Mifflin and Wisconsin Avenues. This year’s grand prize will be a trip for two to Ireland.

Ten minutes later the St. Patrick’s Day Parade will step off at Capitol Square. Parade bands, color guards, dance academies, and local organizations are busily getting their banner printing done. The parade will also have pipe and drum corps, various local clubs, a paddy wagon and bag pipes. This year’s Grand Marshall will be Peter Kraus, the Irish Family of the year is the O’Brien Family and the Irish Man of the Year will be Larry Lowden.

After the parade the Celtic Cultural Center of Madison is inviting everyone to attend St. Pat’s Eve. This year the event will be held at the Brink Lounge, 701 E. Washington Ave.

The Shamrock Shuffle will begin at 10:00 am on March 17th.
