Conroe salutes the arts

February 10, 2018 by

In early March, Downtown Conroe will be celebrating the arts with its 2nd ‘Annual Rising Stars and Texas of Legends Week’. Each day, a member organization of the Greater Conroe Arts Alliance will be hosting a Rising Star of Texas.

The Montgomery County Performing Arts Society will host a performance by the Texas Tenors and the Conroe Symphony Orchestra.

Debbie Glen – a local business owner, singer and songwriter – will be the first Rising Star of the week. She was the 2018 Country Music Awards of Texas winner of the New Song category.

A short film documentary will take the stage for the next night. A poetry slam is scheduled for the Wednesday and Grammy-winner Cecil Shaw will entertain on the Thursday.

The Jazz Symphony will be holding a concert outside on the Friday. Activities are being planned throughout the day for Saturday, and the week will end with the Young Texas Artist Competition that night. Winners of the competition will no doubt want to have pictures taken for later poster printing.

The Texas Tenors and Conroe Symphony performance will be at the Crighton Theater, 234 N. Main Street, from 4:00 until 7:00 pm on Sunday, March 4.

Glen and Shaw’s free performances will be at Pacific Yard House, 101 Metcalf Street at 7:00 pm, on March 5 and 8 respectively. All other performances will be either at the Pacific Yard House or on the streets in Downtown Conroe.
