Kilwins now open in Dublin

A popular chain of sweet shops now has a store open in Dublin, thanks to Ernie and Stephanie Malas, who are the franchisees of a new Kilwins, located in Bridge Park. There are over 100 Kilwins in the United States, most in the Midwest and East.

Stephanie Malas says they first time they went to a Kilwins was in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, when they were enticed by the sweet aromas coming from the shop. The Malas’ children wanted to go back time and again, and the family visited the shop on every trip.

The Dublin shop offers 1,800 square feet, and the kitchen is deliberately located in the front window, so passersby can watch the candy makers hand-crafting fudge there, on a marble table that weighs 950lb.

Malas revealed that approximately 40% of the products they sell are made in-house, including caramel-dipped apples and fudge. The stores also spend about two hours making caramel sauce. The rest of the sweets are made in the company’s main kitchen in Petosky, Michigan, where the company was begun and has been operating since 1947.

Kilwins’s products are not available in groceries, so customers either have to place orders online, or go to a shop, such as the Malas’s new Dublin location, which is open from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm daily.

New businesses like this can benefit by distributing promotional products to early customers, who can refer others to the shop.
