Redding runners ready for marathon

January 9, 2018 by

The SWEAT Running Club is presenting the annual Redding Marathon which is coming in a couple of weeks. This year, the event will include a three-person marathon relay and the Sundial 5K.

The course will be the same as last year. Mile markers will be along the course. Monitors will be placed along the route at crucial points to be sure that the runners stay on course. All 10 aid stations will have water and many will have electrolyte drinks and energy gel.

The Redding Marathon and the Redding Relay will start in the parking lot outside the Shasta Dam Visitor’s Center. Runners will cross Shasta Dam and go along a paved road onto Rail Trail, run through the 1923 railroad tunnel and on to the Keswick Boat Launch. From there, the trail crosses Spring Creek Dam and runners will be instructed to go onto the Rail Trail Extension. Next, runners proceed to the Middle Creek Trail and on to the Diestelhjorst Bridge, where once across, participants will be directed to turn around and retrace their steps back to Sundial Bridge to the finish line. Food, drinks, and finisher medals will be waiting.

Spectators have special places along the course at mile 10, 13, 17, 24 and 26 that are ideal spots for viewing. Many will no doubt be waving banners showing support for their favorite runners.

The Sundial 5k starts and finishes at Sundial Bridge.

Redding Marathon will be January 14, starting at 8:00 am.
