Locals participate in Shop On State

Shop On State, a holiday event that takes place in the city of Rockford, near Loves Park, Illinois, recently gave locals an opportunity to discover some of the shops in their vicinity and what they had to offer.

Downtown Rockford, in addition to being covered in snow, holiday decorations, and celebratory holiday banners, had all of their local shops running specials for customers during the Shop On State event. This helped current business advertise their own unique products and gave the city a chance to help rejuvenate the downtown area. Along with the promotions, those who shopped during the event also had the opportunity to win a gift basket filled with several products from shops and eateries valued at around $750.

The owner of Ground Floor Skateboards, Alicia Neubauer, says that the event really helps the downtown area grow, adding:

“We’re all having sales today. And when you support local businesses, you’re supporting your community, you’re supporting your downtown. We will in return support you.”

Some shoppers, such as Linda Sonneson, thought that the event was not only great for shopping but also to explore:

“It’s just a great place to walk down. It’s a great place to look at and reminisce. Just see what’s being offered.”
