Sacramento celebrates holiday season with music

December 16, 2017 by

Sacramento music lovers should have space on their Christmas calendars for one of the upcoming musical concerts being presented this weekend.

Sacramento Concert Band will be presenting its annual Holiday Concert. The 55-member band will be playing non-seasonal jazz, classical and show tunes selections along with traditional Christmas songs.

Sacramento Master Singers will hold their Master Singers Christmas concert on the same day. The program will include a meditative candlelight procession, traditional carols, and spirituals. Its multicultural repertoire will include ‘Noe’, an African dance piece that will have the singers dancing as well as singing. Other works will include a 17-part antiphonal piece by Sir James MacMillan, and ‘O Nata Lux’ by Morter Lauredsen.

For bell ringing fans, The RiverBells Sacramento Handbell Ensemble will be ringing in the holidays with its Winter Holiday Concert. The concert will feature mostly seasonal English hand bell music but will also be presenting big band era swing pieces.

The Sacramento Concert Band Holiday will be tomorrow from 2:30 to 4:00 pm at the new Rio American Center for The Arts, 4540 American River Drive, Sacramento.

A Master Singers Christmas will be at the First United Methodist Church, 2100 J Street, Sacramento and begin at 3 pm tomorrow.

Lastly, RiverBells Sacramento Winter Holiday Concert will also begin at 3:00 pm tomorrow at the Guild Theater, 2828 35th Street, Sacramento.
