Local Bellingham theatre features holiday programs

Whatcom Symphony Orchestra will be presenting its annual seasonal community music event Holiday Magic this month. The guest conductor will be WWU’s Director of Orchestral Studies Dr. Ryan Dudenbostel.

Local children’s choirs will be accompanying the orchestra for its performance of ‘Home Alone’ and other holiday tunes. The Whatcom Chorale will feature soloists in a Scott Henderson special number. The performance will have the traditional kid-friendly holiday tunes in the first half so little ones can enjoy the music and then leave if the concert gets too long for them.

During intermission, children can enjoy hot cocoa with marshmallows as student musicians perform holiday carols.

Later in the month, the theater will resemble festive holiday cards as it is turned into Clara’s Christmas ballroom. Ballet Bellingham will present a traditional Nutcracker ballet. This version will be presented in the original Russian ballet style. Costumes, backdrops, and scenery will be reminiscent of Russia back in the 1890’s when Tchaikovsky first presented his now famous masterpiece.

Holiday Magic will be presented at the Mount Baker Theatre, 104 N. Commercial Street, Bellingham tomorrow, December 10, starting at 3:00 pm. Tickets will range from $15 to $39.

The Nutcracker will also be at the Mount Baker Theatre. Performances will be December 21 at 7:00 pm and December 22 from 7:30 pm until 10:00 pm, then again on December 23 and 24 beginning at 2:00 pm. Tickets will be $20.
