Torrington to enter holiday spirit

November 26, 2017 by

Torrington’s Christmas Village will be opening at its traditional time in December.

The celebration will begin with a parade. As usual, this will start at the Armory, march along Main Street, continue on up Mason, and end at the Village.

Once inside the village, children will meet Santa in a lavishly decorated room. After the visit with him, where each child will receive a toy, the crowd is ushered out into the village. The next stop will be a visit with Mrs. Claus where children will receive free holiday cookies. The cozy looking chalet will be the Toy Shop. Shelves will be bursting with presents and elves will be busily bustling around making more toys. Rudolf and three other live reindeer will be on display.

Kids will be invited to jump up on Santa’s sleigh. That and many other photo ops will be available so guests will want to remember to bring phones and cameras. Copies of photo taken during the visit will no doubt find their way into many of this year’s holiday cards.

Santa Claus Christmas Village at 150 Church Street in Litchfield Hills will open December 10 and close on Christmas Eve. Hours will be 1:00 to 8:30 pm every day except Christmas Eve when they will change to 9:00 am to noon. The tour around the village will take about half an hour, but the lines waiting to get in are expected to take about an hour and a half.
