Massapequa Park residents can burn off some calories on Thanksgiving Day

November 22, 2017 by

The annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot is back, and all residents are invited to come out and support the cause.

Raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the main goal of every Turkey Trot held in Massapequa. The very first Thanksgiving 5K race and fun run took place in 2010, and since that time, the event has helped to earn thousands of dollars for the cancer charity.

The event returns this year and everyone is invited to join in and bring their friends and family along. They may wish to print up some fun banners and support the runners as they help to provide needed funds for a local charity.

The fun run begins at 8:30 am and the 5K starts at 9:15 am. The organization promises an abbreviated awards ceremony to prevent any interruption of dinner plans. A little activity offers a way to eliminate some of the usual post-feast guilt that many people experience following their holiday indulgence.

The fee for the event is $10 for the fun run and $35 for the 5K. It will take place at the John J. Burns Park at 4990 Merrick Road in Massapequa Park this Thursday, November 23. Register online at the Turkey Trot website or at the park on the day of the race. Registration ends at 8:30 am on Thanksgiving Day and only cash will be accepted.
