Danbury readies for tree festival

The 15th Annual Festival of Trees is coming soon, and this year it will be moving to a new location.

Early holiday shopping will be one of the many draws to this event. Quilters Handmade Corner will have original handmade items donated by individual knitters, quilters, and area quilting guilds. Doll clothes, jewelry, and scarves will also be available.

The MarketPlace will have gift ideas such as soaps, candles and toys, while Holiday Lane will have artisans, designers’ displays, and photographers selling their works.

Over 100 decorated trees will be judged for prizes. Raffles will include the trees and other high-value prizes. Individuals, social organizations, businesses, and schools will be providing the fully decorated trees. Some businesses will have coupons, free samples, and flyers as part of their decorations.

New this year will be the Children’s Winter Village. Here, kids can get tattoos, get their faces painted, make and take crafts, go to the Coloring and Lego building station, and enjoy popcorn. Youngsters are invited to attend special parties as their favorite sci-fi characters and enjoy rocket fuel (juice) and space snacks (cookies). There will be an intergalactic magician and interactive entertainment.

Proceeds from The Festival of Trees will go to Ann’s Place – an organization dedicated to helping families dealing with cancer.

The Festival of Trees will be at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 18 Old Ridgebury Road, Danbury on November 17 at 10:00 am, through December 19 at 4:00 pm.
