Arlington readies for traditional marathon

The Marine Corps Marathon, also known as ‘the Marathon of Monuments’ and the ‘People’s Marathon’ will once again have over half a million runners running through Arlington streets.

The Health & Fitness Expo will greet the participants when they pick up their packets. Many exhibitors will be passing out flyers, promotional products, and free samples of their goods and services. The pre-race event will also feature the MCM Runners’ Conference and the Kickoff featuring games, entertainment, prizes, and a First Timers Parade.

The second day will have the Expo and Morning Mess. The Kid’s Run will have over 3,000 kids from the ages of 5 to 12 running the one-mile fun run.

The marathon will begin with the MCM Hand Cycle and Wheelchair start followed by the 42nd Marine Corps Marathon. The route will take runners through Rosslyn, Georgetown, and the National Mall. It will then cross the bridge into Arlington, pass the Pentagon, Crystal City, and finish at the Marine Corps War Memorial.

Pre-race festivities will be October 20 from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm to October 21 from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm at the Gaylord National Resort, 201 Waterfront Street at National Harbor. The Marathon will begin at 7:55 am on October 22 between the Arlington National Cemetery and the Pentagon and end by 3:10 pm at the Marine Corps War Memorial. A festival will follow in downtown Rosslyn.
