Coral Springs goes “golfing for the King”

October 2, 2017 by

The 12th Annual Coral Springs Golf Classic is only a few weeks away.

The charity event will be a fundraiser for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Fund that provides scholarships to financially needy high school seniors from the five local high schools, regardless of their ethnicity.

Registration will include a continental breakfast, 18 holes of golf, beverages between holes, T-shirts, admittance to the driving range, and a ticket to the awards buffet luncheon.

The format will be a four-person scramble with a shotgun start. Prizes will be awarded to the first and second place teams, and to the most honest one. Other prizes will go to the man and woman who get closest to the pin, shoot the straightest, and achieve the longest drives.

Auction bids and raffle tickets will be available for items donated by local organizations and businesses.

The Martin Luther King, Jr Scholarships range from $500 to $1,500, and this year sees 17 seniors receive this assistance to further their education. Since this scholarship program began, the fund has awarded scholarships to 250 students.

The Golf Classic will be at the Carolina Country Club, 3011 N. Rock Island Road, Margate on Friday, October 20. Registration will begin at 7:00 am with the shotgun start commencing at 8:00 am. Brochures and flyers for this tournament are available online on the MLK, Jr. Golf Tournament website.
