Middletown workshop to showcase the local harvest

September 22, 2017 by

A workshop planned for the Middletown area will demonstrate how the local harvest can be turned into meals that can be both healthy and delicious.

During ‘Eating with the Seasons’, attendees will be given an introduction to the various crops that are grown in the local area, when they are ready for harvest, and when they come into season in farmers’ markets and other venues in the region. It will be facilitated by Dr. Nicole Klughers, who is a naturopathic physician, and will include details about the nutritional benefits of different fruits, vegetables, and other ingredients.

The students who come to the class will also be given tips for how they can convert the produce in meals that are both tasty and healthful, preserving their nutrients and other beneficial components. There will be hands-on cooking demonstrations, and those who attend will be able to sample the dishes for themselves. Each person will walk away with an increased knowledge, recipes, and a sampling of some of the crops harvested in the local area. Digital copying can be used to create simple recipe cards and other materials for a session like this.

October 17 has been selected as the date for the workshop, and it will be held at 1845 Silas Deane Highway in Rocky Hill. Additional information can be found on the Dr. Klughers’s website.
