Firefighters to celebrate Fire Prevention Week

September 18, 2017 by

Fire Prevention Week is coming up, and to mark the occasion, Heartland Fire & Rescue will have an open house at the fire station on Lexington Avenue in El Cajon. The firefighters plan an event that will mix important information with fun.

Activities planned include demonstrations of various types of fire rescues, like vehicle extractions, search and rescue operations in urban settings, K-9 demonstrations, demonstrations of CPR techniques, and talks given by real 911 dispatchers.

Visitors will also be able to visit with paramedics, firefighters, and law enforcement officers, as well as touring emergency vehicles that will be on display.

Heartland Fire & Rescue was created in January 2010, when the cities of Lemon Grove, La Mesa, and El Cajon entered into a joint agreement to manage emergency preparedness, emergency medical services, fire prevention services, and fire protection in a cooperative sharing system. To achieve this, one organization was created to serve all three cities – namely Heartland Fire & Rescue, which is defined as an ISO Class 1 Fire Department.

Since Heartland serves all three cities, it is planning celebrations in three locations. The El Cajon open house will take place October 7 in El Cajon, and October 14 in Lemon Grove and La Mesa. The time will be the same in all three locations: from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.

Events like this can be even more fun if organizers use colorful banners to decorate the venue.
