Locals will be clearing their calendars for the two-day Bellingham Seafeast 2017 coming in a few weeks.

The fun will begin with SeaFeed at the Square. Depot Market Square will be serving salmon, oysters and Dungeness crab. Fisher Poets on Bellingham Bay will be singing sea shanties, telling stories, reciting original poems, and presenting videos about the sea.

The second day the festival moves to Bellingham Bay at Zuanich Point Park and Squalicum Harbor. The park will hold its 2nd Annual ‘Skill-of-the-Grill’ Salmon BBQ Grilling Championships. A total of 10 teams will be vying for $800 in prizes. Seafood industry judges will be doing the honors, and there will be a new ‘People’s Choice’ category. The Oyster Shuck & Slurp will have local contestants opening and downing oysters for two minutes.

Guests will go on dock walks, visit boats, and learn about net-mending and knot-tying. Other demonstrations will include how to fillet fish and crack crab. There will be boat rides, and tours of the fish processing plant the ice house.

Other activities will be the Taste of the Sea, and competitions such at Guess the Fish, Herring Toss, and Survival Suit Races. The U.S. Coast Guard will be conducting a Rescue at Sea, and there will be boat displays of outrigger canoes, steamboats, kayaks, and SUPs.

Seafeast will be September 22 from 5:00 to 11:00 pm through September 23 from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm.
