Annual design contest for Festival of Whales logo underway

The Festival of Whales Foundation in Dana Point is now accepting entries for its annual logo design competition.

The competition is in preparation for the 2018 Festival of Whales, the 47th such annual event. The Festival is held for two-weekends each year and in 2018 will take place March 3 – 4 and 10 –11.

Last year was the first logo design contest to be open to the public in several years, and the results were such that the decision was made to do so this year as well. During the five years prior, the competition had been restricted to schoolchildren only.

A complete list of technical criteria is available at the Festival website. However, the overriding requirement is that the prominent feature of the logo design must be a California gray whale. Entries will be accepted through October 4, after which five finalists will be selected in short order by The Festival of Whales Foundation Board.

Each of the five finalists and their entry will be available for viewing online and their name and artwork will be featured in the contest’s media coverage. Voting by the public, through social media, will take place October 5 – 11.

The winner will see his or her logo on all promotional products for the Festival of Whales 2018 as well as ride in a classic car during the Festival of Whales Parade.
