Melville canines prepare for camping adventure

All dogs are invited to join their humans in taking part in a fun annual event.

Scouts around the country are earning camping badges this summer, and the PupScouts want humans to bring their furry companions along for a similar doggy adventure. They are camping attire contests, traditional camping treats, and campfire songs all planned for the big day.

Founded in 2010., the PupScouts operate like any human scouting group by offering badges for various activities and even selling their own (doggy) cookies. This year marks the third camping event the organization has held.

All proceeds from the raffles taking place during the event will be donated to the Huntington Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center. The shelter is a no-kill, nonprofit organization that has been helping find homes for animals since 1927.

Any business owner can include pets into their businesses even if they do not actually offer pet services, perhaps by including the images of personal pets into graphic designs, adding their photographs to holiday cards, or making offices and other business property pet-friendly.

The camping extravaganza will take place on Saturday, September 9 from 2 pm to 5 pm at 59 Greenhills Road in Huntington Station. It is not an overnight adventure, but sleeping bags and tents are supplied for resting and photo opportunities. Pet owners should bring along their own blanket or other seating option. The cost is $25 for admission only, and $30 for admission and a PupScouts camping badge.
