Madison goes to downtown neighborhood festival

August 9, 2017 by

All of Madison is invited to attend the upcoming Orton Park Festival. This free four-day event is one of the nation’s oldest outdoor music festivals.

The event will kick off with a pizza and ice cream social, followed by a performance from Cycropia Aerial Dance Company. The next evening will begin with Better Yeti, continue with Fleetwood Mac tribute band Gold Dust Women, and end with Cycropia.

Saturday’s line up will include Girls Are Got, Gabe Burdulis, Diane Coffee, and Alejandro Escovedo. The MNA auction will also be part of the afternoon.

Sunday’s Jazz Brunch will have Soulmen, The Viper and His Famous Orchestra, Low Czars, and Tony Castaneda Latin Jazz Band. There will also be Jane Lee Hooker and Davina & the Vagabond. The traditional Orton Cake Walk will take place in the middle of the afternoon in the game tent.

There will be plenty of food and merchandise vendors. Local businesses will have representatives passing out information flyers and brochures describing their goods and services.

The festival benefits the MNA through concession sales, sponsorships, and donations.

Orton Park Festival will run from August 24 through 27 at Orton Park on the Near East Side, 1114 Rutledge St, 22 East Mifflin Street, Suite 200 here in Madison. The event will open at 5:30pm on Thursday and close after the Davina & the Vagabonds performance on Sunday evening.
